Retraining Isaac

So last week we went on a little trip to Utah to see Brandon's grandma and a lot of his family. It was a really fun yet stressful trip. It started out with a fifteen hour drive to Salt Lake, normally it would only take twelve hours but we had little Isaac with us who needs a break from the car every couple of hours. He did a really good job sitting in the car for so long. We did give him an Oreo cookie in the car seat so that he would stay entertained. He did have a little freak out around Fillmore Utah, but calmed down when I sat next to him in the back seat and played with him and convinced him that he wasn't all alone in the car. That night we stayed at Alanna's apartment where she was nice enough to allow Isaac to sleep in her bed with her.

The following morning Alanna took Isaac to school with her so that we could could get a little extra sleep. Of course we couldn't seem to use that time to get some extra sleep because we were stressed and over tired. So we got up and got ready pretty much as soon as Alanna left for school. Then we went on a crispy cream hunt, following a googled address. We soon found out that it had closed down a couple weeks or maybe longer before we ventured out so there were no doughnuts on our morning.

After our disappointing hunt we headed up to Alanna's school. There we met Alanna's class and enjoyed the morning learning about a somewhat typical day in Alanna's life, or not since it was a field trip day... We then walked to the park with her class and spent the afternoon playing games and watching Isaac flirt with all the girls in Alanna's class. At two we left to pick up Brandon's Aunt Karen at the airport and head out to Logan, UT to meet up with Momma Powell and Grandma Skipper.
We headed straight to the hospital from the airport and went up to see Grandma Skipper. I was shocked but very happy to see how alert and aware she was. It was fun to talk to her and listen to her talk about her great grandchildren and her great great grandchildren. She was fully sweet and kept us on our toes with her humor.

We spent the next couple of days going from Grandma's house and spending time resting and just being with Brandon's family and going to back to the hospital to see Grandma and to enjoy time with Grandma Spring.

Isaac was great the whole trip, but it caused a little bit of a problem once we got home because Isaac had so much fun getting to sleep with Mommy and Daddy on our trip. Mommy and Daddy on the other hand didn't think this was fun! He's not a good sleeper when he's in your bed because he's so loud and he wants to sleep right on your arm and if you move him away once he's asleep he wakes up and freaks out till you put him right back on your arm or your tummy or your head. He wants to make sure you didn't leave him. He did manage to fall off the bed during nap time because we were both sleeping and he rolled away from me. His scream woke me up and left me wide awake even though he went back to sleep.

So when we made it home sleeping was not on Isaac's mind. The first night he must have woken up five times and spent more the half the night screaming his guts out. Night number two didn't go much better so we're working on teaching Isaac that sleeping on his own is better for everyone in the family including him. So far we've gotten one full nights sleep with no tears. We're hoping that tonight will be number two! Wish us luck.
On the drive home we did pass a Krispy Kreme where Isaac enjoyed his first ever doughnut!

I'm glad you were able to see Grandma one more time. I know she loved seeing you all. She's a special woman with such compassion and love for everyone. I'm glad your trip went smooth going back. It was good seeing you all again and seeing how Isaac has grown and changed.

It's good you were able to make the drive and see everyone. We wish we could have seen you too. You mentioned you were stressed and it was a stressful trip...what was stressful about it?

Just not knowing if we would make it in time. Maybe stressful isn't the right word. Just emotional tough. If that makes sense. And on the way home we found out my cousin Mike he's 27 had a massive heart attack. That just added to the emotional roller coaster.
